Skin Care Routine + Tips For Keeping Your Skin Clear

Having a good skincare routine is vital to having a gorgeous healthy glow and clear skin.  I didn't really have a skincare routine until about a year ago and my goodness has my skin changed since I started having one!  I used to just remove my makeup and go to bed and this really wasn't good for my skin as just using a makeup wipe wasn't cleaning my face properly.  My pores felt really clogged and I just didn't feel great.  I started to get loads of spots and I didn't really know what to do but slowly and gradually I started to build up a skin care routine to the point where I am now.  My skin is so much clearer than it used to be and it feels a lot healthier.  So without further ado, here is my skincare routine....

Step 1: Exfoliating

Keeping your skin exfoliated is so important in a  skin care routine because if you don't exfoliate your old skin cells will start to pile up and make your skin really dirty which will lead to acne and at the end of the day I think it's safe to assume no one wants acne!  To exfoliate I use a natural face wash and gently scrub my face using a cotton flannel daily.

Step 2: Moisturising

After I have finished exfoliating I will move on to moisturising.  Moisturiser is not something I have always used, but it really is worth the extra money/hassle.  When I first started building up my skincare routine I only exfoliated, moisturising didn't really cross my mind, that is until, my skin started to get a little dryer than usual.  Once my skin started to get quite dry I realised that I should probably moisturise.  I spent ages looking for a moisturiser that was more natural and had no parabens or other harmful chemicals in and that is when I came across Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Cream.

This has been a really great moisturiser for me (as I'm sure you can tell considering I'm now squashing the packaging to get the last bits out) because I'm not overly keen on moisturisers like coconut oil as they don't really settle into the skin as much as I'd like.  This one is a creamy consistency and my skin really absorbs it a lot quicker than many others I have tried.

When I started to exfoliate and moisturise daily my skin became a lot clearer and definitely looked a lot healthier but it wasn't quite where I wanted it to be.  I still had a couple of spots that would go away for a day and then appear somewhere else on my face and I wasn't very happy about it.  I wanted to have perfectly clear skin that lasted more than just a day.  Here are my top tips for achieving clear skin....

Step 1:  Drink Tons of Water

I didn't really drink much water for a long time and was usually quite dehydrated.  All of this changed when I read somewhere that drinking lots of water was actually a great way to clear your skin.  The first thing I did was look up how much water I should be drinking at my age and that was it, every single day ever since then I have been drinking the right amount of water and spreading it throughout the day.  My skin looked SO much better after just about 3 days of doing this.

Step 2:  Avoid Sugar (as much as possible)

Now I'm not saying that I don't have any sugar at all.  Everything we have should definitely be in moderation, but I have cut out a lot of sugar compared to the amount that I used to have.  I used to have at least a pile of sweets a day and maybe a fizzy drink 2-3 times a week.  Looking back I actually can't believe I would do that to my poor, poor skin.  I first cut down on the amount of sugar I had when I saw a video about how fizzy drinks are made and all the chemicals that are in them.  That video put me of fizzy drinks completely and I haven't had one fizzy drink for about a year now.  Obviously you don't have to completely cut something out like that, but me being the over-the-top person I am just had to.  I also stopped having as many sweets and other unhealthy 'treats'. I will admit that I do still have the occasional 'treat' but it's definitely not so often.

Step 3:  Exercise

Sweating is an amazing way to get rid of toxins in your body. Toxins can quite often come out as spots on our face but if you're getting rid of them by sweating from exercising then obviously you're not going to get as many spots.  If you are so lucky as to have a sauna then I would recommend using that too.

And that is my skincare routine + tips for keeping your skin clear.  I really hope this has helped you out in some sort of way and that you can take away a tip or two from this.  Taking care of ourselves is so important and it's always nice to hear what everyone else does so that we can learn something and pass it along to help even more people out.  If you have a great skincare routine or any fabulous tips then please do let me know in the comments!

  2. I also didn't have a skincare routine before. Then I started to look up Korean skincare stuff and decided to get some toner and a moisturiser. I guess I prefer the toner to be as natural as possible so I used to use Rosewater and now I use apple cider vinegar mixed with a lot of water.

And finding a moisturiser is so difficult ':/ but thankfully I found one this year!
